StarTech Network Cards PEXUSB3S4V Editorial Review
The StarTech.com 4-Port PCI Express SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Controller Card has garnered a mixed reception from its users, showcasing both strong points and notable weaknesses. Many customers attest to its effectiveness in enhancing USB 3.0 connectivity, particularly praising its compatibility with various devices, including demanding applications like the Oculus Rift. Users have reported significant speed improvements, with data transfer rates soaring up to 120 MB/s, leading to increased productivity, especially when transferring files from legacy USB 2.0 devices. The card’s performance is generally rated highly across different operating systems, including Windows, Mac, and Linux. However, issues concerning the physical design and installation of the card have dampened the experience for several users. A common complaint revolves around the bracket quality, with many users indicating it requires modifications or adjustments to fit correctly in their cases. This installation trouble can deter less experienced users and lead to frustration. While customer service from the seller has received commendations for being responsive and helpful, users have reported unsatisfactory experiences with direct support from StarTech, indicating a gap in customer support effectiveness. Despite these design flaws and mixed customer support experiences, when the card is installed successfully, it appears to serve its intended purpose effectively. **
