About This Item
Introducing A Distant Plain, the latest addition to the COIN Series by Volko Ruhnke. This board game takes you into the Afghan conflict of today's headlines, offering a unique collaboration between two top designers of modern irregular warfare games. In A Distant Plain, 1 to 4 players will join forces to navigate the complexities of the Afghan conflict, with new factions, capabilities, events, and objectives.
For the first time in the COIN Series, two counterinsurgent factions must work together to coordinate a campaign against a dangerous twin insurgency. Will you be able to reconcile competing visions for Afghanistan and lead your faction to victory? This game features the same accessible game system as GMT's Andean Abyss and Cuba Libre, making it easy for fans of the COIN Series to learn and enjoy. However, it also introduces new elements specific to the Afghan conflict, such as coalition-government joint operations, the volatile Pakistani posture toward the conflict, evolution of COIN and insurgent tactics, government graft and desertion, coalition casualties, returning Afghan refugees, Pashtun ethnic terrain, multiple scenarios, and a deck of 72 fresh events. With A Distant Plain, players will face difficult strategic decisions with each card drawn, as the innovative game system integrates political, cultural, economic affairs with military and other operations.
The game allows for a realistic experience of the complexities of the Afghanistan conflict and the intricacies of the various factions involved. Whether you prefer to play solo or with up to 4 players, A Distant Plain offers an immersive and strategic gameplay experience. The game typically takes around 3 hours to play, providing hours of entertainment for both seasoned gamers and newcomers to the COIN Series. Don't miss out on the opportunity to immerse yourself in the internecine brawl that is today's Afghanistan. Buy A Distant Plain online and experience the depth and complexity of this realistic game of strategy.

GMT Games Board Games GMT 1310 Editorial Review
The Consensus on A Distant Plain is a mix of positive and negative experiences. While some customers have had issues with the condition of the game upon delivery, citing bent cards and instructions, others have thoroughly enjoyed the realistic and asymmetric style of gameplay. Players appreciate the game's representation of the complexities of the Afghanistan conflict and the balancing required to succeed. The asymmetry adds a unique and challenging dynamic, with factions having different victory conditions. The game's components are of high quality, and it effectively models military, economic, and political interrelationships in Afghanistan. However, some players have noted that the game can be time-Consuming, especially for newcomers to the COIN system, and it can feel tiresome due to the Constant threat from other factions. On the other hand, the game's well-balanced nature, event-driven cards, and thoughtful planning pieces were praised. Overall, the game presents an enjoyable and sophisticated experience for those interested in modern counterinsurgency. It is particularly well-suited for multiplayer play and offers a depth of strategy for those willing to invest the time to learn and play through a game.
